Nothing Is Impossible

productivity think and grow rich Mar 22, 2023

“Maybe young Barnes did not know it at the time, but his bulldog determination, his persistence in standing back of a single DESIRE, was destined to mow down all opposition, and bring him the opportunity he was seeking.”

That quote comes from Chapter 2 of Think And Grow Rich.

This was about Edwin Barnes, who had one single desire: to work, not FOR, but WITH Thomas Edison. He was willing to start anywhere, and he did convince Thomas Edison to give him an entry level job.

Mr. Edison said, He stood there before me, looking like an ordinary tramp, but there was something in the expression on his face which conveyed the impression that he was determined to get what he had come after. I had learned, from years of experience with men, that when a man really desires a thing so deeply that he is willing to stake his entire future on a single turn of the wheel in order to get it, he is sure to win.Barnes had no money to begin with. He had but little education. He had no influence. But he did have initiative, faith, and the will to win. With these intangible forces he made himself the number one man with the greatest inventor who ever lived.”

This was a man who had no resources other than a very singular desire to achieve something very specific.

If he had talked to ANYONE about this, any and every single person would have told him that he was crazy.

Maybe the smartest thing he did was to not talk about it. He knew what he wanted and he went after it. I’ve been reading about how important it is not to talk about your plans with anyone.

“Vibe in private,” is the phrase I keep reading.

If Edwin Barnes could achieve his dream, so can you. Wherever you are in life, my guess is you’re already well ahead of where he was when he made the decision to go ask Thomas Edison for a job

What many of us are lacking may be the one thing Barnes had: a singleness of purpose. Something he wanted SO badly that he obsessed on it. And he was willing to do anything to get there. Even if it meant sweeping floors, he would have done it, and he probably would have been grateful.

So now you have a simple task ahead of you.

Answer the following question:

What is the one thing you desire more than anything else?

Assume no limits.

Assume nothing is impossible.

Because it isn’t. You have no idea HOW it’s going to happen, and that isn’t your concern. Your only concern is WHAT!

Get out a notebook, or open up Notion. Write down this question and the answer.

Share it with NO ONE.

Look at it daily to remind yourself that everything you do today is meant to help you get a little closer to that goal.
